Webinars: World Patient Safety

(As of 2025.9.10)

World Patient Safety Day (WPSD) is celebrated on 17 September each year as one of the WHO's global health days. This year’s WPSD intends to bring attention to Safe care for every newborn and every child and campaigns to:

  • Raise global awareness of safety risks in pediatric and newborn care in all health care settings, emphasizing the specific needs of children, and caregivers,
  • Mobilize governments, health care organizations, professional bodies and civil society to implement sustainable strategies for safer care for newborns and children, as part of broader patient safety and quality initiatives,
  • Empower parents, caregivers and children in patient safety by promoting education, awareness and active participation in care, and
  • Advocate for strengthening research on patient safety in pediatric and newborn care.

Continuing the WPSD Radiation Webinars, WHO has organized a virtual event this year entitled Ensuring safe care for every newborn and child: A radiation protection perspective, which will take place on 17 September 2025 (12:30-14:00 CEST).

  • The Webinar aims to raise global awareness of safety risks in pediatric and newborn care in all health care settings, emphasizing the specific needs of children, families and caregivers when using radiation for diagnosis and treatment. Further, a panel will discuss possible collaboration to strengthen radiation protection for pediatric and newborn care across different regions. The Webinar is hosted by ISR with a keynote contribution from WFPI and a panel representing the following NSAs in official relations with WHO: ICNIRP, ICRP, IOMP, ISR, ISRRT, WFNMB and WFUMB.
